The Mexican-American actor developed a successful music career in Mexico, before moving over to repeat the same success in Hollywood. One of his key roles was as Vice President-elect Aaron Shore in Designated Survivor, and in the 2014 movie, X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Appendiceal cancer is very rare, with only one or two people per 1 million being diagnosed each year. It’s more common for people aged between 50 and 55, according to the National Cancer Institute.

“Adan had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who glimpsed it were changed forever,” his reps said, as per Deadline, before continuing: “He will be greatly missed by so many.”

Warner Brothers also said they were “heartbroken to learn of the passing of Adan Canto. A wonderful actor and dear friend, we were honored to have him as part of the Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment families since his U.S. debut in The Following more than a decade ago.” (via Deadline).

The star leaves behind his wife, actress Stephanie Ann Canto, and their two young children, Roman Alder, and Eve Josephine.

The couple worked together on the 2014 short film, Before Tomorrow.

Tributes pour in for the actor

As the tragic news breaks, fans and celebrities, including Halle Berry, take to social media to pay their tributes.

Halle, who starred alongside Canto in the 2020 sports drama, Bruised, and 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, posted a photo of the star on Instagram, alongside the caption: “I don’t have the words just yet…. but my dear sweet friend Adan just gained his wings. Forever, forever in my heart.”

Fans also took to X, formerly known as Twitter to share their condolences, as one penned: “Thank you to be a part of one of my precious TV shows ever and to be one of my best characters ever, you will never be forgotten.”

“If you have watched Adan Canto in ANYTHING, his talent and creativity shine so bright. Crying today for this loss and for his family. He has 2 babies. Adan, you will be so missed,” wrote another.
